It's been a busy few weeks on the speaking front, with a few different groups in the mix. I've talked to general student populations, student-athletes, teachers, staff, administration and parents all within a two week span. What have I learned along the way? Everyone has a story to tell. Each place I go someone, at least one person, comes up to me with a story about how Social Media has had an impact on their lives. More often than not it's a story about cyber bullying and how bad it got. Sometimes it's a comment about my presentation and how it has forced them to change their minds about what they post every day. Recently an administrator approached me and said they watched a group of kids, during the presentation, take out their phones and make changes to their privacy settings and begin to delete followers that they didn't know. What does this tell me? It tells me that it's working. Little by little we're changing habits, and moving away from Bad Decision Making, and getting closer to helping everyone Make Good Decisions. At times this is frustrating and it can feel like beating my head against a wall, but when people tell me that it's working and that a high school student actually listened and made the choice to Make Good Decisions, it makes it all worth it.
